WeChat Input Method quietly got much better: speech-to-text now punctuates, paragraphs and rewrites for you
Today's video is about one thing: go download WeChat Input Method.
Its speech-to-text is not simply "more accurate" this time. Once you stop talking, the text goes through a second pass: filler words removed, punctuation and paragraph breaks added, long passages condensed into bullet points, garbled word order straightened out. The button is called 「文字整理」(Text Cleanup). Below are the official download links for every platform, the version each one shipped in, and the desktop shortcut.
The short version
Go update WeChat Input Method (微信输入法, also called WeType). Its speech-to-text just got a large-model upgrade, and it goes well past “more accurate.”
On top of accuracy, it now runs a second pass after you stop talking. It drops the filler words, adds punctuation and paragraph breaks, condenses long passages into bullet points, and fixes sentences where you garbled the word order.
You finish talking, and the text is ready to send.
I built a speech-input product myself. A free feature just caught up with it, and I’ll say so plainly.
What the changelog actually says
Straight from the official WeChat Input Method changelog, unedited:
Voice input large model upgraded—finish speaking and send it as is
- Automatically removes the filler words you say while talking
- Adds punctuation and paragraph breaks, so you skip manual formatting
- Condenses long passages into clear bullet points
- Straightens out sentences where the word order came out wrong
The Windows build adds one more line: repetitive, rambling content gets merged and trimmed automatically.
The feature is called 「文字整理」(Text Cleanup). It appears as an option once transcription finishes, and you tap it to run the cleanup. So if you updated and noticed nothing, you probably just missed the button.
Which version it landed in
Per the official changelog, the first version on each platform to carry this:

Mac had it in late May, mobile caught up in mid-June, and the full rollout finished in early July. Plenty of people are only hearing about it now, but it has been running quietly for two months.

One caveat: the version numbers on Tencent’s software center (pc.qq.com) lag behind the official site. Every version and link above comes from the official site, and that’s the one to trust.
Two things people get wrong
One: WeChat Input Method is a standalone app, not a feature inside WeChat.
After installing it, you enable it as a keyboard in your system settings. Once enabled, it works in every app—documents, notes, email, a search box in your browser. My demo happens to be inside WeChat, but that’s just the demo, not the boundary.
Two: updating the WeChat client will not give you this feature.
The app to update is WeChat Input Method. The two ship on separate schedules with completely different version numbers. If you updated WeChat and saw no change, that’s why.
How to trigger it on desktop
On mobile it’s the mic on the keyboard. On desktop it’s a hotkey:
- Windows: hold the right Alt key (that’s from the official 2.1.0 release title; the changelog body also lists Ctrl+Win)
- macOS: hold Fn
Since 2.0.0 (2026-03-24), the Mac build supports live transcription straight into the text field, unlimited recording length, and free mixing of Chinese, English and various dialects. Newer builds let you customize more shortcuts.
Worth noting that the voice line didn’t get good overnight. iOS 3.0 in December 2025 upgraded the voice model, added 15 dialects, removed the time limit and added offline recognition. iOS 3.4.0 in early June made the model faster and more accurate. Text Cleanup is another layer on top of that.
About my own input method
I built and sold a speech-input product of my own, with paying members.
After this upgrade, my position is straightforward: members who already topped up keep using their balance normally, and I’m closing new top-ups.
When something free gets this good, I’m not going to keep charging people for the same capability.
